Wakefield’s historic buildings record a prosperous industrial past, but the city is also currently undergoing a £100m regeneration.
The ambitious plans are focused on the Westgate area, and include new offices, shops, restaurants, piazzas and a hotel. In the meantime, there’s still plenty to enjoy: shopping at The Ridings, a multi screen cinema, two theatres. Just outside the city on the M62 is the new Xscape development, an exciting mix of adrenaline sports, shopping, dining and cinema.
Neighbouring Leeds is now one of the country’s leading cities for business, shopping and entertainment. It’s about 20 minutes by train from Wakefield: near enough to commute, certainly near enough for fun.
